The project consisted of the construction of the construction of a single storey sun lounge, kitchen extension, main lounge (inclusive of living area, W/C, pool plant and store), and various ground floor internal alterations. Our services included the design and detailing of the external blockwork skins, steel work for the roof structure including significant trimming for the sun lounge glazed lantern. The timber frame aspect of the lounge superstructure was to a specialist’s design and details.

A significant opening was formed along the western elevation, due to the removal of the existing external wall, requiring a bespoke foundation solution to support the new steel frame. Existing steelwork within the main house was retained and worked into the proposed structure to maintain the existing first floor.

The result of the works was a refurbished property with large, open plan spaces.

Our involvement also included the elements of the external works. This consisted of a new swimming pool and drainage for the proposed extensions and pool. Liaison with local departments was undertaken by BSC to confirm and agree appropriate methods of drainage for the pool.

Design team meetings were attended to ensure that the works were progressing as required and that any structural queries were flagged and resolved in good time to prevent delays.

Full SER certification was carried out for the main structure as well as secondary items including the timber frame, medium risk glazing and barriers.
