A luxury modern house perched on the top of the ridge over St Aubin’s. Fantastic views over the bay and yet tucked away and hard to view itself. Such enviable sites present engineering challenges requiring expert design. To maximise the main view and aspect, the house has fully glazed elevations, stepped terraces and cantilevers, as well as large open spaces & sleek, minimal & hidden structures – all significant engineering design challenges.
Below all the beautiful views is a significant engineering challenge in designing the substructure: cutting into the face of the embankment, structures must be designed to maintain overall stability of the slope, and allow a 3 storey house to be cut into the side of the slope down, projecting only 1 storey upwards.
These design challenges previously prevented the site from achieving its full potential. There are many such along the perimeter ridge of the plateau, awaiting similar developments.
